This quarter, I read the novel, The Hunger Games. This book is about sacrifice and strength as well as how people deal with extreme survival of the fittest situations. In this book, an interesting character was Katniss. Katniss is the protagonist of the story. She volunteers to replace her sister Prim as tribute for District 12 in the Hunger Games. She is a very strong and stubborn person who will do anything for her family and the people that she loves. She is extremely introverted and can be a little fiesty sometimes. Katniss is very clever and is able to think quickly and logically in urgent situations. Most of the people in her life only see the tough side of her, but the few people she is close with in her life are extremely fortunate to see the gentle and compassionate side. She also experiences trust issues and likes to do things by herself or with one or two of her close friends or family members
I feel like this character connects to me because I am an introverted person who only opens up to a few people that are close to me in my life just as she does in the novel. I am also a quiet person who experiences trust issues with many things and often wants to do things individually or with one or two people as well. I also feel connected because I know a few people who are like her and I notice that most of the people in their lives never get to see the softer side of them like I do. I am also in connection with her because I come off as a very serious person sometimes, but I also have a happier side as well, but it just doesn't show as often as it should..
Katniss' introversion is a good addition to the book because you get to know what she's thinking as the reader but you can also see what types of things Katniss doesn't convey to other characters in the book. I think that the introversion helps us see her character development. It allows us to see how she begins to open up to more people and begins to become more confident as the novel goes on. We as readers get to see how she discovers herself over time through the story. This character interacted in a unique way with her friend and hunting partner Gale because their relationship was sort of three dimensional. They seemed like they were brother and sister, boyfriend and girlfriend, and just best friends who enjoyed hunting, which was what they actually were. Katniss was always with Gale before the games, and they often fantasized about fleeing their country and starting a new life away from poverty and adversity.
