Pat Peoples Pioneer of His Own Reality
For my Second Quarter book I began to favor Pat from Silver Linings Playbook by Mathew Quick, but at the beginning of the book I found him so bloody annoying because his whole motivation to get better after he was diagnosed with a bipolar disorder, charged with assault against the history teacher that his wife was cheating on him with, and was put in a mental institution for 4 years was to get back with his cheating wife after he got out of the mental hospital.Pat Peoples is a person who is lost in his own sense of reality, but he doesn't realize it until it is shoved in his faith. He doesn't realize the amount time that went by and he starts his journey into what really happened after he meets Tiffany. Tiffany became the person who Pat is able empathize with because she is equally screwed up due to her husbands death and depression. They gave each other outlets to express themselves in a nonjudgmental environment and provided friendship for each other. This allowed for Tiffany to stop participating in provocative behavior and Pat to begin to live his own life. Tiffany in her own weird way tries to express her feelings towards Pat by forcing him to realize that his wife is never coming back and he begins to live his own life. Pat's development as a character lead him to become a more likeable person that you can sort of related to because we are all lost in this place we call reality.

I feel like this novel is a good story of rising from adversity. This novel is indeed relatable to most people because nobody goes through life without struggling and usually peoples' lives are impacted based on the way they deal with those situations.
ReplyDeleteThis books sounds very interesting. I can understand the frustration you feel towards Pat's first reaction to his bipolar disorder, but I'm also glad that he was able to overcome this trial and grow from it. I think this character is a good example to us because like Pat, we may not handle our adversity correctly, but once it's overcome we grow tremendously as a person.
ReplyDeleteThis seems like a very interesting story to read. It is good to see that Pat was able to learn how to accept his disorder and blossom as a person. Good job Tow Mater.
