The Great Gatsby was the book I chose for my second quarter SSR book. I definitely do not regret choosing this book because now its one of my favorites. Overall the plot and story line was really intriguing and it was really engaging for me which was because the characters, more specifically Nick Carraway. Nick is honest, patient, and trustworthy. The whole story is told through Nick's perspective which helps this novel because Nick learns things other characters. This makes it easy for the reader to keep up because you find things out through his perspective. Nick is a dynamic character because we see him undergo a change from the beginning and end of the novel. This definitely helps because its easier to stay engaged and interested. As the novel progresses everything starts to become clear and you get to learn more about Nick and how he fits into the midst of everything. I think I can connect to Nick because were both good at keeping secrets and laying low when drama happens. Nick is really patient and is a good friend even when he's sort of a skeptic. One of my favorite interactions in the book is when Gatsby (Jay) and Nick are in his backyard during one of his parties and there having a deep conversation which ends up with Nick saying, "You can't repeat the past." And Gatsby's response is,"Why of course you can." I love this part in the novel because it shows how Gatsby is trying so hard to believe that its possible to relive the past even though its a new circumstance, he's still fantasizing about his future with Daisy.
Good job making a connection with Nick to your life
